GRAAFF-REINET | ABERDEEN NEWS— The funeral for a much loved local man takes place this Thursday in Aberdeen at the Dutch Reformed Church at 11:00.
Stefan Calitz (25), known as Makou, lost his life on Sunday, 25 March, when the driver of a VW Polo in which he was a passenger, lost control on the R43 between Elim and Gansbaai.
Since his childhood years, Stefan loved the great outdoors and farm life.
He was born in Louis Trichardt and matriculated at Nylstroom High School, but loved the Karoo and spent nearly every vacation on the family farm, Dowefontein, where he learnt all about farming.
His grandfather, Hertford exposed him to hunting since a young age and he was an excellent shot and hunter. His great love was Angora goats and farming in general.
He spent a year at Grootfontein Agricultural College in Middelburg after he matriculated (which is where he earned the name Makou) and then became involved full-time in farming.
Last year he was a field officer and livestock agent employed by CMW in the Caledon district. Stefan was loved by his many friends and he always had a story or two to share.
He was someone who easily made friends among old and young, and was a true friend through bad and good times.
Stefan loved to tell a story with sound and special effects. His family and friends were very important in his life.
He leaves his father and mother, Johann and Marlene Calitz and sister Linzetta Calitz.
He will be sadly missed in both the Graaff-Reinet and Aberdeen communities.
