GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Residents of Asherville, Adendorp and College Road were left without power for several hours on Tuesday following the theft of a power cable at the Santa substation.
To restore the supply, electricians had to connect the affected areas to the Kroonvale electrical network, putting the supply to Kroonvale, Asherville, Geluksdal and Mandela Park under severe strain.
On it's Facebook page, the Dr Beyers Naude Municipality warned that consumers in these areas may be subjected to power outages due to network overload.
According to the municipality special equipment is needed for repairs and replacements at the Santa sub-station, and can only be procured from out-of-town suppliers.
The municipality said it would inform residents when repairs would commence.
