KAROO NEWS - Hanna Makoba, who runs a women’s sewing cooperative, would like to share her experience and skills of running a small business with women who are currently unemployed.
She is hosting a meeting this Saturday, 1 September, organised by the Assemblies of God Church in Willie Deysel Street, Asherville. The meeting will last for two hours, starting at 15:00, and there is no charge.
The theme of the meeting is Kingdom Women Entrepreneurs and In Business. “The aim is to encourage each other in business and building God's Kingdom, as we serve in business and in leadership”, said Makoba.
Ideas for small businesses will be shared to encourage the women to use skills they already have to do something for themselves.
Host Hanna Makoba started New Horizons Women Sewing Co-operative in 1999 under very difficult circumstances and has managed to sustain it over the years. Currently, there are six ladies involved in the project, and their hard work and enthusiasm have paid off.
They manufacture a range of products including school uniforms and tracksuits, traditional wear, curtains, duvet covers, patchwork and beadwork. From October onwards, Makoba also plans to offer training to anyone who would like to join the cooperative.
Anyone who would like to attend the meeting, or get more information, can contact Makoba on 083 338 1722 or 083 795 7133.
