NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS — Cathy Milner, an artist and teacher in the Cape Winelands, will be holding the fourth of her popular annual art workshops in Nieu-Bethesda in May - timed to capture the vibrant autumn colours.
Working from her studio, The Stables Art Studio, in Stellenbosch, Cathy teaches children and adults all mediums of art ranging from drawing (charcoal, pencil, pastels and pen and ink), painting (watercolour, acrylic, oil and ink), printmaking (linocuts, monotypes and etching) and various forms of mixed media and collage.
The group for the Nieu-Bethesda workshop will be a mix of her students from Stellenbosch and local artists.
She focuses on new and experimental techniques and tries to encourage artists to try mediums and techniques that they have not previously worked in new and exciting ways.
The first few days will consist of really 'playing ' with materials and ideas through drawings, collage and mixed media, and then use this as a basis to work towards two finished paintings in the medium of each student's choice.
Every course has a different theme which the students work around, using the local surroundings as well as their own source materials.
"I try to create a safe and open environment to explore aspects of our creative personalities" enthused Cathy.
The course starts on Sunday, 20 May and finishes on Saturday, 26 May, with Wednesday being a rest day to regroup and relax.
There are limited places available, anyone who is interested is advised to book as soon as possible. Cathy can be reached at cathy@milner-family.net or 073 195 9082.
