The two men were arrested on 8 August by the Graaff-Reinet Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, as well as members of the Graaff-Reinet Operational Command Centre. The group was walking home from work to Santaville when the attack happened. They did not have enough taxi money. A family member of one of the six women alleged that the men held all the women hostage in bushes in the Wolwas district.
When one woman pretended that she is sick and needed medical care, the three other women managed to escape the nightmare.
