GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Police confirmed the arrest of two men for their alleged involvement in the armed robbery of the post office in Church Street on Saturday 2 April.
The incident occurred at around 13:00.
According to police spokesperson, warrant officer Majola Nkohli, the post office was already closed at the time of the robbery and the employees were about to leave when three armed men attacked them.
The suspects managed to steal large amounts of money before fleeing the scene in a white Toyota Quantum.
"After receiving a message reporting the armed robbery, the registration of the vehicle was obtained from NAVIC cameras, but the number plates were false. The vehicle's movement was then analysed from numerous pictures that were obtained from the camera and a local paint stores' CCTV footage."
Nkohli said that it was evident that the suspects had changed plates again before leaving Graaff-Reinet. The NAVIC agent, with the assistance of Cradock Security and a farmer from the Jansenville area, continued to analyse the 32 closest NAVIC cameras to locate the vehicle.
A vehicle with all the markings of the suspect vehicle was picked up on the N10 just passed Cookhouse.
Information was shared with SAPS and the vehicle was pulled off on the N2 between Addo and Motherwell. SAPS took two individuals into custody for armed robbery and impounded the vehicle.
The two suspects, aged 47 and 57, are due to appear in the Graaff-Reinet Magistrates’ Court.
The successful arrest demonstrates the value and importance of technology and teamwork.
