KAROO NEWS - A total of six people have died in a head-on collision that occurred at about 01:00 on the M17 in Gqeberha.
The collision involved a Volkswagen Golf with two adult males and a Toyota LDV transporting arbout 15 occupants, coming from the direction of Motherwell.
Both occupants of the VW Golf were declared dead on the scene along with four people from the bakkie, including a 5-year-old boy, one adult male and two females.
It is alleged that the 11 occupants of the Toyota LDV were being transported on the back of the bakkie. They were rushed to Livingstone Hospital for treatment.
Reckless and negligent driving is cited as the main cause for the crash, says Unathi Binqose, spokesperson for the Department of Transport in the Eastern Cape.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Swartkops Police for further investigation.
