GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Arrangements for the annual Flower Festival at St James Church are well underway, which is good news for all flower lovers.
This year the festival will be held on Friday, 19 October, and will be open from 10:00 until 16:00.
Val Loock, one of the organisers, explained that the cost of buying special flowers for the event was becoming prohibitive, so in a departure from the usual showy formal arrangements, this year the church will be filled with baskets brimming with flowers.
As this event leads into the Harvest Festival weekend, some interesting and unusual baskets will also feature vegetables included in the displays. Children will also be involved in putting together baskets, and their efforts will be on show in the entrance to the church.
Tea and scones will be available in the garden in the morning, and a light lunch at midday.
As is well known, the parish of St James has celebrated God's gift of flowers every spring for the last 50 years, and this year promises to be another very special event. Members of the community are invited to come and admire the wonderful creations put together by members of the Anglican Women's Fellowship and their helpers.
Anyone who would like to become involved, or would like more information, can contact Val Loock on 049 891 0585.
