GRAAFF-REINET NEWS & VIDEO - Three people survived a devastating fire that burned down two back yard dwellings on Presidents Street, Kroonvale, last night (10 July).

Four dogs, chickens and doves that were inside the dwellings burned to death.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started just before midnight. The one dwelling started burning and the fire spread to the neighbouring dwelling, burning both to ashes.

The two residents of the second dwelling woke up due to the overwhelming smoke and flames. They escaped through a window.

When they got outside, they realised that the occupant of the house where the fire started was still inside. They had to break a window to get access, woke him up and saved him by helping him through the window.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
