GRAAF-REINET NEWS - A 28-year-old year old male was arrested in Graaff-Reinet for being in possession of a large number of Mandrax tablets.
On Tuesday 28 September, Graaff-Reinet police and K9 unit members conducted a joint operation after receiving information that drugs were being transported from Gqeberha to Graaff-Reinet in a white Quantum taxi.
The team immediately set up a vehicle checkpoint on the R75 between Jansenville and Graaff-Reinet and at about 19:10 the taxi was stopped and searched.
Bristo, the new K9 narcotics dog, immediately picked up a scent underneath the front seat of the taxi and upon further inspection by the dog handler, a large number of Mandrax tablets and a substantial amount of cash were recovered from the vehicle. The estimated street value of the confiscated drugs is R48 000.
The suspect was immediately arrested for the possession of Mandrax and is due to appear in the Graaff-Reinet Magistrate’s Court soon.
Graaff-Reinet station commander, Colonel Andrè Arends, thanked the members for the positive attitude they had shown and for the successful arrest and recovery of the drugs.
