ABERDEEN NEWS - There were four newsworthy cases opened with the Aberdeen police during the week from 20 to 27 March.
The first, of stock theft, was reported on 18 March.
The complainant stated that he sent a worker on that date to take a horse and check on his stock, which had been in the grazing camps for three days. The worker reported that he had found the intestines of three ewes that had been slaughtered. The value of the ewes is R3 700.
There were two cases of residential burglary. The first occurred sometime between 12 February and 28 February, while the owner was away. On his return, he found that the back door of his house had been forced open, and items including a television, groceries and cutlery had been taken, with a total value of just over r3 000.
In the second case, a gas stove, groceries and other items, valued at R3 400 in total, were taken from a house in Douglas Street, Lotusville sometime on 22 March.
A gardener found the front door of the property standing open, and contacted the owner. A 30 year old suspect was later found to be in possession of the stolen item and was subsequently arrested.
The final case is one of robbery, with a weapon other than a firearm.
The 22 year old male complainant, who lives in Springbok Street, Lotusville, reported that he was walking home at 00:30 on 24 March when he was approached by two men, known to him, who started searching him. When he identified one of the suspects and called him by name, the suspect assaulted him by hitting him on the head with a panga, and took his cellphone, worth R450. The victim was admitted to hospital.
Aberdeen SAPS made six arrests during the week.
Two were for common assault, two for theft, and one for housebreaking. A further suspect was arrested for contravening a protection order. Unusually, there were no arrests for being drunk and disorderly in the past week.
