ABERDEEN NEWS - A young Aberdeen family has been left devastated after a blaze destroyed their home on Belmont farm on Tuesday night. The farm is about 7km out of Aberdeen, just off the Willowmore road.
The police received a call at about 7.30pm, and the police and Aberdeen fire crew were soon at the scene.
By then the blaze, which it is believed started in the kitchen, had taken a firm hold. By the time the larger Graaff-Reinet fire engine arrived just before 10pm, there was little that could be done except dampen the smouldering ruins.
Owners Jannie and Didi Lategan were at their town house in Graaff-Reinet with their young children, but rushed back immediately when they heard the news.
No one was injured in the blaze, but family has lost everything. They are currently staying with Jannie’s parents on their nearby farm.
The cause of the blaze has not yet been established.
