GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Spandau Pink Tea team once again hosted a successful function last Thursday at the Botanical Gardens hall, raising R10 000 for the Graaff-Reinet Cancer Association.
This event is hosted annually to allow cancer survivors and patients to enjoy tea and refreshments with supportive members of the community of Graaff-Reinet and surrounding towns. This year, about 150 ladies attended.
The theme was Hawaiian Pink, and many of the guests entered into the spirit of the theme with colourful garlands and pink accessories.
A beautiful garland in the shape of a cancer ribbon, made of pink flowers, was displayed. This had been given to cancer patient Debbie Welman, and when she passed away this year, it was donated at her request to the Cancer Association.
Social worker Marcia Gradwell Kalebe was the guest speaker, and gave a thought-provoking talk on how the mind, body and spirit connection can be used to drive a lifestyle with a purpose. She also emphasised the importance of positive thinking.
"We are very grateful to all our volunteers and sponsors, for the donations of food platters and other goods, as well as financial support," said organiser Ethne Hufkie.
