GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Despite recent uncertainties surrounding the future and funding of the Graaff-Reinet Tourism Office, it is moving forward with exciting developments.
Kim von Behr Imrie, the manager of the Graaff-Reinet Tourism Office, shared a thrilling update with the Advertiser. "First things first, we're giving ourselves a fresh new look which is modern and timeless," said von Behr Imrie.
"We've been hard at work redesigning our logo to capture the spirit of our town and region. This new logo embodies the rich heritage of Graaff-Reinet, showcasing its natural beauty and historical significance. It prominently features the sun and two iconic natural landmarks, Spandaukop and the Valley of Desolation. And don't fret, we've kept our beloved tagline, 'Gem of the Karoo,' which perfectly sums up Graaff-Reinet's unique character and its place in the Great Karoo."
What makes this makeover even more special is that it's a local effort. The transformation is led by individuals who intimately understand the essence of Graaff-Reinet. "We believe this is crucial, especially in light of the recent debate about a proposed name change. Many residents oppose it, and if any steps are taken to change the name, there's sure to be significant resistance."
In addition to its exciting rebranding, Graaff-Reinet Tourism recently had the chance to address its funding concerns during the Parliament to the People event hosted in Graaff-Reinet.
"We discussed the issue of insufficient funding over the past seven years with Mr Mlungisi Mvoko, the MEC for Economic Development, Environmental Affairs, and Tourism. Surprisingly, he wasn't aware of the problem, as funding for tourism is allocated through the Sarah Baartman District Municipality and Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality," said Von Behr Imrie. "Thanks to the intervention of local attorney Derek Light, it seems that the promised funding is now on the horizon. This positive development bodes well for Graaff-Reinet Tourism and our efforts to promote the beauty and heritage of our town and region. Exciting times lie ahead, and we're looking forward to sharing all that Graaff-Reinet has to offer with the world."
