ABERDEEN NEWS — Aberdeen police have had a successful week, with four suspects already arrested for the three property-related cases reported in the last week.
Last Thursday, a report was received that goods had been stolen from the Aberdeen Bowling Club after a break-in. Beer and spirits worth over R10 000, as well as a DVD player, tablecloths and cash, were taken, sometime between January 13 and January 19.
The police received information about where the goods might be, found some of the liquor and arrested a 32-year-old man. Later in the evening the police also received a complaint that men were seen hanging around in an abandoned house in Hoffman Street, so they went to investigate. They found nothing, but the trip was not in vain, as they followed a man on a bicycle to a house in Douglas Street.
As the police entered the yard, the three men drinking there ran into the house, and one ran away. After asking permission to search, more liquor was found, and a bag later identified as being from the Bowling Club. Two men, aged 30 and 32, were arrested for being in possession of stolen property.
The second house in two days was broken into in North Street, and a bicycle and electric tools were taken from the garage after the door had been forced open. Some of the stolen goods have already been recovered as a result of information received, and an arrest is expected shortly.
A 49-year-old man was arrested for being in possession of stolen property after he was caught red-handed still in the yard of Ignus Verwey’s transport business. Someone saw the suspect in the yard and called the police - when they arrived, he was still in the yard, carrying buckets of paint which had been taken from a truck parked in the yard. The suspect has previous convictions for housebreaking and theft.
