GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — On April 10, 1991, the Deon Adams swimming pool was opened in the middle of the Kroonvale community where all could access it.
During its grand opening, the pool, named after the Western Cape MEC responsible for Natural and Environmental Conservation, was described as a necessity to provide the necessary relief and relaxation to community members during Graaff -Reinet’s very warm summers.
Now, Kroonvale residents are experiencing the pain of seeing a building they love go to ruin.
The decaying building, which was put out of use several years ago has been left high, dry and drained of its liquid assets since then.
As one might expect, it’s not a pretty sight. Vandals have ensured that the building is bereft of windows, doors and other amenities with gravity colouring the walls.
Leolynn Smith, spokesperson for the Camdeboo Municipality, said that they are aware of the sad state of affairs pertaining to the swimming pool.
“The Municipality is busy contemplating the situation and is looking for an adequate solution to the problem.”
