NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS — Two good news stories made residents smile in the little village of Nieu-Bethesda this week.
On Thursday evening, two men were seen walking down the Middelburg pass laden with firewood with an expensive looking drone on top of the bundle of wood.
Unbeknownst to them, a documentary team from M-Net had been staying at the Ibis Lounge in the village during the week and had lost a drone far up in the hills as its homing device stopped working.
That afternoon they gathered a group of children who spent the afternoon combing the hills - sadly to no avail - the children were rewarded with milkshakes at the Ibis Lounge for their efforts.
Early the following morning, Melvin Lottering, (who hails from Richmond and was visiting the village for the weekend), arrived at the Ibis Lounge with the drone in hand. To his delight, Paul and Lucie Zunckel contacted M-Net who rewarded Lottering with R500 for retrieving the valuable piece of equipment. This was the second drone that had gone missing from the M-Net crew and everyone was thrilled that it had been returned.
In another story with a happy ending, Elizna Fourie, of Aasvoelkrans sent out an impassioned plea on a local Whatsapp group to ask if anyone had seen their pointer, Milo, who had gone missing from the farm deep in the Gats River Canyon.
Quite late the following evening, Grace Nel placed a message on Facebook, asking if anyone had perhaps lost a beautiful dog that had been picked up on the tar road leading to the village and was safely at the SPCA in Graaff-Reinet.
The following morning, much to their delight, Milo was reunited with his family. The Fourie family is extremely grateful to the kind hearted people who ensured the Milo was taken somewhere safe, as well as the SPCA who provided him with a safe-haven for the night.
