ABERDEEN — Several reports were received on gunshots being fired in Aberdeen in the early hours of the morning over a period of days last week, with a long discussion last Tuesday on a community WhatsApp group after a series of shots were heard in town around 3.30am.
No culprit has been found, but a case of discharging a firearm in a municipal area has been opened by a Thembalesizwe resident who reported hearing shots every night from February 24 till Tuesday, February 28.Four cases of housebreaking and theft were reported during the last week.
The first occurred on the evening of 2nd March when washbasins, a hosepipe and clothing were taken from an outside storeroom behind a house in Carnation Street, Lotusville. The door lock was forced open to gain entry.
During the night of 3rd March, a television set and hair clippers worth a total of R1 700 were taken from an outside room of a house in Mimosa Street, Lotusville, after the door had been forced open.
A Samsung cellphone and small amount of cash were taken from a house in Luxolo Street, Thembalesizwe, during the afternoon of Sunday 5th March.
Over a period of ten weeks or so, bakkie wheels, a cellphone, television, DVD player, music system with speakers and a window frame were all stolen from a house in Stockenstroom Street, in Aberdeen town. The total value of the goods is estimated at just over R13 000.
These cases are all still under investigation, and there are no suspects at this stage.
