GRAAFF-REINET NEWS— On Tuesday, November 22, Graaff-Reinet stalwarts Arthur Knott-Craig and Theuns Eksteen were among retired DA councillors in the Eastern Cape who were honoured at a high tea called by the DA in the Eastern Cape at the Summerstrand Hotel in Port Elizabeth.
Here they were presented with Certificates of Exemplary Service in recognition of their unwavering dedication and service to local government.
The certificates were handed over by the leader of the Democratic Alliance, Mmusi Maimane, assisted by Athol Trollip, the executive mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay.
The inscription reads: 'The leadership of the Democratic Alliance express their deepest gratitude for your service to the party, your municipality and the people of South Africa. We thank you for your commitment and dedication to the cause and wish you Godspeed on your retirement from public office'.
Knott-Craig and Eksteen have over the past 20 years played a vital role in Graaff-Reinet's political arena, first being the founders of the Graaff-Reinet Alliance in 1995 after which they then assisted in the development of the Democratic Alliance when it was first established in 2000 through the merger of the Democratic Party with the Federal Alliance and the New National Party (NNP).
Both have since then played a fundamental role in the success of the DA in Graaff-Reinet up until their recent retirement.
