GRAAFF-REINET | ABERDEEN NEWS — On Sunday, November 6, Aberdeen SAPS received information from Graaff-Reinet SAPS that they were looking for a white Polo Vivo car, whose were suspected to have stolen goods to the value of R100 000 from Clicks and Spar in Graaff-Reinet.
While on patrol on the N9 between Aberdeen and Graaff-Reinet, Cst Qashani and Cst Mqabile from Aberdeen spotted the vehicle heading away from Graaff-Reinet, about 10km from Aberdeen. They tried to stop the vehicle, but it carried on, so they immediately set off in pursuit, and called for back-up.
Sgt Mbaduli and Cst Nokhangela joined the high-speed chase, and the fleeing Polo continued towards Willowmore. Eventually, about 60km from Aberdeen, the SAPS vehicles managed to get the fleeing suspects to stop by forcing the car off the road.
Two men and a woman were in the car, and when the police searched the vehicle, they found the items that had been stolen. The three were arrested and later transferred to Graaff-Reinet with the assistance of Cst Carolus from Graaff-Reinet (male and female suspects may not be transported in the same vehicle).
They will stand trial for shoplifting and possession of suspected stolen property. The three suspects are all from Cape Town.
