GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Since it joined Instagram in June, the Graaff-Reinet Advertiser has had an overwhelming response from Karoo communities. 

The account, @graaffreinetadvertiser, gained 800 followers within the last five months.

"Readers see enough bad news, Instagram is a space where they can enjoy all the beauty that the Karoo has to offer," said Advertiser editor Paula-Ann Smit. 

She added that local animals, learners and other community members also feature on the account.

According to Smit, the most-like picture on the account thus far is of  'Boer Soek 'n Vrou' contestant Graham Lombard from Cradock; a whopping 175. "This doesn't surprise me at all," Smit said, "he's a show favourite and the communities are proud of him."

Another favourite photo was an aerial view of the Groot Kerk on Church Street, Graaff Reinet, with 104 likes.

"It's been so much fun to interact with our readers on Instagram, we're grateful for all their support," Smit concluded.
