GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Eight people were arrested across Graaff-Reinet for drug possession over the weekend, following an operation by the Graaff-Reinet Operational Command Centre (OCC).
The team embarked on a stop and search during the weekend of 25 September, with searches and vehicle checkpoints focused on Asherville, Santaville, Kroonvale and Umasizakhe.
These were the positive results, according to Spokesperson, Capt Bradley Rawlinson:
During the operation in Asherville at 16:35 on Saturday 26 September, a 19-year-old suspect was arrested with a mandrax tablet worth R60. The operation led the police members to another residence in Asherville, where a second suspect, aged 27 was arrested for possession of a crushed mandrax tablet.
The operation then moved to Santaville, where a 20-year-old suspect was arrested after he was found in possession of a quarter mandrax tablet. While in Santaville, the members of Graaff- Reinet also arrested a 30-year-old man, for possession of half a mandrax tablet. Later, a 37-year-old of Santaville was arrested, also for possession of half a mandrax tablet.
The operation moved to Umasizakhe at 23:00 on Saturday 26 September, were a 31-year-old man was arrested for possession of a quarter mandrax. A 19-year-old man was later also arrested for possession of tik straws worth R150.
On Sunday 27 September, the OCC operation continued in Santaville, where a 25-year-old male was found in possession of crushed mandrax and dagga.
“The Graaff-Reinet Station Commander, Colonel Andre Arends, acknowledged the successes and thanked the members for the good work,” said Rawlinson.
