GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — During the past week, one suspect was arrested for murder, and one for attempted murder in Graaff-Reinet. There were also eight arrests for assault GBH, and three for assault (common).
Two people were also arrested for domestic violence.
For property-related crimes, there was one arrest for robbery, three for housebreaking and theft, one for theft from a motor vehicle and six for theft. Two suspects were arrested for dealing in Mandrax and dagga, and another two for possession of Mandrax. For possession of dagga, there were five arrests, and for possession of tik, two arrests.
It was a busy week for traffic fines, with eleven being issued. For being drunk and disorderly, there were 17 arrests, and for drinking in public, three were arrested.
Two convictions were secured in the last week. One man was convicted of stock theft, and sentenced to eight years imprisonment, with no option of a fine. For possession of dagga, a sentence of a fine of R300 or 30 days imprisonment was given, suspended for three years.
Once again, the police have a number of items that have either been confiscated or handed in. If you think any of the recovered goods might belong to you, please check at the police station in Middle Street, Graaff-Reinet.
A Toyota Corolla has been recovered, as well as various items of clothing, cell phones, boots, shoes, knives and tools.
The confiscated goods include 14.741kg of dagga, 4½ Mandrax tablets, 3g Tik, six Tik lollipops, assorted knives, and 2050ml of liquor.
