NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS — Nieu-Bethesda was not the quiet little hamlet people are accustomed to this past weekend!
The Lormar Endurance Mountain Bike Tour ended its second stage ride in the village on Saturday afternoon at the Nieu-Bethesda Sports Club.
The Club was transformed into a tented town where weary cyclists could lay their tired bodies after their ride from Fairview farm on Middelburg.
The tennis courts became home to hundreds of mountain bikes and even a massage tent popped up in the middle of the court! Members of the Sports Club provided delicious side-dishes for the meals and the pub was busy into the evening.
The usually deserted streets were lined with cars with foreign number plates as elegantly dressed guests for no less than two weddings wended their way to their respective ceremonies.
Jurie and Benita were married under the willow tree before partying the night away at ‘Die Waenhuis’. Graaff-Reinet locals, Liesel and Tim, had a happy wedding celebration under the wisteria at the ‘Melting Pot’ and then enjoyed a pizza celebration at the Pizzeria.
Events such as these bodes well for business in the village and guesthouses, trading stores and restaurants were busy for the weekend.
