KAROO NEWS - The Unicef Truck Activation roadshow kicked off in the Camdeboo sub-district on 16 August.
Government Communications and Information System (GCIS) and the Department of Health conducted the activation in 7de Laan, Kroonvale and Adendorp.
This roadshow was conducted to raise awareness on vaccination and to bring vaccination to the residents of the Camdeboo sub-district. This sub-district has seen quite a spike in the number of Covid-19 infections during the third wave. This is one of governments' efforts to achieve herd immunity in the area.
A total of 20 Johnson & Johnson vaccines were administered to some of the residents on 17 August while a total of 30 Johnson & Johnson vaccinations were recorded in 7de Laan on 6 August. During the activation 59-year-old Clara Pietersen received the Johnson & Johnson jab in the comfort of her own home. Clara has been confined to bed for five months. Clara's daughter, Imelda Martins, said that the truck couldn't have come at a better time as she struggles to move her mother around and she also could not get her mother to the clinic to get vaccinated.
Teleka Hurbetina Pase, aged 87, also received her J&J vaccine at her home.
The activation is aimed at getting as many residents as possible vaccinated. GCIS and the Department of Health urged residents of Asherville and Umasizakhe to be on the lookout for this truck: Asherville (from 09:00) and Umasizakhe (from 12:00).
The truck will be seen in the Makana Municipality on 20 August and the Kouga Municipality on 21 August.
59-year-old Clara Pietersen received the Johnson & Johnson jab from Sister Yvonne Britz.
