GRAAFF-REINET NEWS AND VIDEO - The police have warned in a shocking revelation that rape in Graaff-Reinet has become more common among under aged boys.
The police cluster commander for the Graaff-Reinet police, Brigadier Rudolph Adolph said the police are investigating numerous cases where older teenage boys are raping younger boys.
Adolph also revealed that in some cases adult men are also raping younger boys.
Most recently, two 8-year-old boys were raped by a 14-year-old boy.
“This is the latest trend in and around Graaff-Reinet and we need to address this cruelty urgently before it gets out of hand,” said Adolph.
He said in Jansenville, three cases were reported where under aged boys were raped by adults.
Adolph said this trend might be due to social imbalances in poorer communities.
He said most of the children are experimenting out of ignorance.
“We need the relevant departments to intervene, because this threat needs a multidisciplinary approach."
He said another main concern was that a lot of the cases go unreported.
“People should come to the police station and open their cases so that the police can investigate and take the matters to court.”

Adolph advised that the communities should not tolerate this injustice done to their children.
“Children must grow up in safe environments and where they have been hurt, we must also show them that their perpetrators will be brought to book for the deed.”
He said the police do get involved in social outreach programmes when asked to participate or prepare information material available to people.
“We live in a time where crime prevention is essential and that people, especially in the poorer communities are aware of some dangers in their midst.”
Adolph said the law is there to be exercised when people are not feeling safe.
“I would like to urge communities and the victims of rape to take a stand and report the incidents at the police station.”
