GRAAFF-REINET BUSINESS NEWS - Dr. Riaan Pieterse has recently added a new treatment modality to his practice, Karoo Chiropractic, that will enable him to treat a wider variety of conditions more successfully.
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy was initially designed to break up kidney stones, but incidentally, they found that it was effective for a range of other conditions too.
Various research papers were published in the last few years that has proven the effectiveness of shockwave therapy.
A radial pressure wave or shockwave is produced that can "kickstart" a stalled healing process in the body, which then allows the body's own healing mechanism to restore the damaged tissue. This is great news for people who suffer from chronic tendon injuries because their only option until now has been cortisone injections or surgery.
Some of the conditions that are responding very well to this treatment include, but are not limited to the following:
- Plantar fasciitis, pain on the bottom of the foot (especially first thing in the morning)
- Achilles tendon problems, pain at the back of the leg above the heel
- Runners/jumper knee, pain at the bottom of the kneecap
- ITB problems, pain on the outside of the knee
- Shin splints, pain on the inside of the lower leg
- Gluteal tendinosis/calcification, pain in the buttock
- Tennis/golfer elbow
- Shoulder tendinosis/calcification/small tears of the tendon
The average amount of treatments for chronic conditions are between 4 and 6 treatments, 7-10 days apart.
