GRAAFF-REINET BUSINESS NEWS - Graaff-Reinet's local tourist booklet A Guide to Graaff-Reinet is once again in print.
The booklet was originally printed in 2014 when Nicola Beldon of Country Mouse Design realised that there was a need for an inexpensive guide to the town for tourists, and the first few editions sold out. After several requests from guest house owners, Beldon decided to update the information and bring out the fifth edition.
The 40-page booklet contains information and photographs on the history of Graaff-Reinet, historical buildings, churches, cemeteries, monuments and landmarks of interest.
There is also useful information about the National Park and outdoor activities in the area.
A section is devoted to the various museums that make up the Graaff-Reinet Museum complex, with information on what is displayed in each, and the current entrance charges. There is also a short section on the local townships.
Nearby towns Aberdeen, Nieu-Bethesda, Willowmore and Cradock also get a mention, and this will hopefully encourage tourists to stay longer and explore the area. The directory at the back of the booklet provides information on local tourist shops and restaurants, which is up-to-date as at the beginning of 2019.
The town map in the centre of the booklet offers a suggested 3km walking route and all places and monuments featured in the booklet are numbered with the relevant page numbers for easy reference.
These booklets are available from the Graaff-Reinet Museum, McNaughton's Bookshop and Windmill Junction at R25 for black and white or R45 for full-colour booklets.
Owners of guest houses and Airbnb establishments may purchase copies in bulk directly from Country Mouse at a discounted price for their guests to use during their stay, and several have already indicated that they would like to keep a small stock on hand to sell on to their guests at the normal retail price.
These can be ordered or purchased directly from Nicola at Country Mouse at countrymousedesign@gmail.com, 083 415 6514, or at 42A Cradock Street.
