COLESBERG BUSINESS NEWS — Nineteen Eighty-Nine, dubbed as a "must-visit" by people stopping over (although locals love it too) is situated just off the N1 at 1 Sluiter Street, Colesberg.
This charming, character-filled establishment with its quaint and inviting setting caters for groups that are big or small and is the perfect gathering place for old friends to meet up and enjoy hearty meals.
Enjoy a slice of delicious carrot cake accompanied by a great cup of coffee or sit down for lunch with scrumptious salads and other light meals like their all too delicious lamb pie, breakfast wrap and pulled chicken burger.
The building, originally built in the 1800s, was converted into a coffee and gift shop by owner Alta Pretorius and officially opened on 1 November 2017. "It has always been a dream of mine to open this establishment. I love the idea of making people happy and seeing people enjoy good company, good food and in a good place. There is nothing more satisfying than that."
It was her son, Landré, who came up with the name. "We were throwing around ideas in the kitchen after dinner one night when he said, "What about Nineteen Eighty-Nine?". I immediately went to my husband Wynand, glowing with excitement, and it was decided. 1989 was the year my husband and I were married and the idea of naming something I love after a part of someone I loved made me very happy," says Alta.
"It has been a blast since our doors opened in 2017. I've learnt so much, have met so many people and continue to challenge myself every day. I challenge myself with the cakes we sell, the menu we put up and the hot and cold drinks we serve. I focus on high-class quality and perfect service and have the best kitchen staff and waiters who I have so much to be thankful for. My goal is to make Nineteen Eighty-Nine a place where everyone feels welcome and a place where you can't leave Colesberg without visiting. I'm proud of the little place I've created and can't wait to see what it will become in the future," concluded Alta.
