SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - The Western Cape Department of Agriculture, a partner of the George Agricultural Show, will attend the event from Thursday 25 to Saturday 27 August in full force.
The department will host a number of exhibitions, workshops and competitions, which will not only benefit the agricultural sector, but also the public at large.
Youth and parents in George can look forward to an interesting exhibition on career opportunities within the agricultural sector as well as human capital development initiatives. Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute will also form part of the exhibition and learners will benefit a great deal from this one-on-one interaction.
Apart from showcasing their services via their web presence, the department will exhibit new innovative technology tools. Farmers will be able to speak one on one with the technology experts on new innovations like Cape Farm Mapper - an online tool which is not only used by farmers, but also conveyance attorneys, town planners, banks, engineers, estate agents and agri-tourism organisations.
A workshop for agri workers will be hosted and their children will have the opportunity to take part in many of the sporting codes, which will be presented at the show. Smallholder farmers will also attend exhibitions on different cattle breeds and there will be presentations on topics such as calf rearing and animal parasite evaluations. In addition, workshops will be held for smallholder farmers where the following will be discussed: carrying capacity, farm potential and burning issues on Comprehensive Agricultural Support Programme funding.
These exhibitions and workshops are an opportunity to get to know all the department offers - under one roof.
Departmental exhibitions will be open from 08:00 to 18:00 on Thursday and Friday and 08:00 to 14:00 on Saturday.
