GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality (DBNLM) says it is hard at work to ensure that electricity remains affordable and available to residents.
According to a statement by the municipality, their electricity project will ensure that the municipality complies with its mandate to provide a sustainable electricity distribution service.
The project is spearheaded by the DBNLM and Utility Consulting Solutions (UCS).
Last week, the municipality's Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Jimmy Joubert, and Ettiene Thomas, chief commercial officer of UCS, visited numerous businesses in Graaff-Reinet to encourage them to join the municipality on its journey towards alternative electricity trading.
They encouraged businesses to download the app at mymunicapp.co.za, which offers the option of registering as both consumers and/or suppliers of green electricity.
The statement says this effort is a significant step in the town's journey to becoming more environmentally friendly and energy efficient.
According to the municipality the installation intervention is not just a technological upgrade, but a gateway to more sustainable energy practices.
"The smart UCS electricity trading platform, in conjunction with the municipally deployed Automated Metering Reading (AMR) solution, makes it possible for all consumers to feed excess green energy back into the municipal grid, whereafter the municipality compensates all participants at an attractive rate," the statement reads.
"The new smart electricity trading platform offers advanced functionalities, including load management, data storage, simplified billing for bidirectional power, and close-to-real-time validation of legislatively compliant green energy trading, making it easier for the DBNLM and UCS to offer a first in the country, smart alternative and day trading electricity service to all its account holders."
Consumers are encouraged to join this initiative by registering at https://mymunicapp.co.za. More information is available on the website.
