Net 'n paar kilometer van die Graaff-Reinet perdeskoen se skoon strate en prentjiemooi argitektuur bly sommige mense van Graaff-Reinet in vullis en vuilheid. Volgens inwoners van dié areas is die rede hiervoor dat die plaaslike munisipaliteit, die Dr Beyers Naudé-munisipaliteit, maande laas hier skoongemaak het.
