GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — The Graaff-Reinet Garden, Home and Rose Club were very privileged to be invited to hold their end of year meeting in Stephen Falcke’s Bougainvillea home in Graaff-Reinet.
Falcke is a world-renowned interior decorator having decorated homes, palaces, lodges, mansions, hotels, yachts and aeroplanes all over the world.
At the moment he is working on seven continents.
He fell in love with Graaff-Reinet and built a “Cape-Georgian” home with a formally designed garden using only three elements: trees, bougainvillaea and lawn.
He later extended his property by building a second home and a guest house all in the same style.
The outsides and insides are painted an ochre colour and the house is filled with beautiful furnishings and artwork.
The garden comprises of many “rooms” each having a seating area or swimming pool.
The bougainvillaeas are used as hedges, potted and Klaipeda.
Falcke gave a very informative talk on his house and garden with entertaining stories of some of the houses he has decorated.
The members and guests then had an opportunity to wander around his houses and gardens, while he was there to answer any queries.
Delicious eats were then enjoyed in various parts of the houses and garden by the 65 ladies.
Perhaps the highlight of the day was the “secret presentation” which Falcke had organised.
Two top South African artists entertained the Club’s members with singing which was so beautiful it brought a tear to many an eye.
Keith Smith has been seen in the theatre, on television and film.
In 2015 he was nominated for the Naledi Award for his part in Sister Act and won a Naledi for his direction of Shrek.
He is currently appearing in Three’s the Show with Annabel Linder.
Anne Power has been in the entertainment Industry for 30 years and has sung and acted in musicals, cabarets, films and television.
She has just completed an international tour with “Singing in the Rain.”
They so enjoyed their time in Graaff-Reinet and have promised to return next year.
This will be most assuredly be a show not to be missed.
