GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — The Top 8 senior boys and girls travelled to Bloemfontein over the weekend to compete in the Clover tournament.
The girls’ first team of four players came second in their section of eight schools and playing off for the third position, were beaten by a very strong Oranje Meisies Hoërskool team to end a very creditable fourth out of 16 schools.
The second girls’ team finished seventh in the second teams’ tournament.
The boys’ first team of four players, began to reach their full potential over the last two weeks. They too ended second in their section of eight schools and won their play- off match against Grens Hoërskool to finish third out of 16 schools. Ocean Wilma played exceptional tennis at number 1, losing only one singles match. Wiegard Brummer’s flawless doubles play must also be commended. The boys’ second team finished third in their section and fifth overall.
All Union's tennis players did the school proud both on and off the court.
Tennis vs Gill College
Also last week, the first Senior Boys’ and Girls’ Tennis teams played against Gill College in a school fixture. The girls won by 47 games to 34 and the boys by 54 games to 27.
Union wishes to thank the Wilma Family for their sponsorship of the Boys Top 8 tennis clothes. On tour to Bloemfontein last weekend was Noah Cilliers, Ross Stanley, Wiegard Brummer, coach Louise Vorster, Ocean Wilma, Matt Harpur, Ryan Hobson, Brett Amsterdam and Bowen Langmead.
