GRAAFF-REINET RUGBY NEWS - Central Veterans would like to invite the community of Graaff-Reinet to their annual Sports Festival which will take place on 20 April at the Kollie Koeberg Stadium.
The aim of the event is to uplift the local community and give back to the youth of Graaff-Reinet.
The main attraction for many will be the rugby, featuring some well-known names including former Springbok Wayne van Heerden, who played for the Boks between 2005 and 2007, and now coaches and plays club rugby for PE Police. Richard Visser, Vernon Malow, Ralton Lewis, Randall Koopman, Anthony Davids, Elroy Roman, Chris Japtha and several other prominent local players will also be well worth watching.
The highlight of the day will be the Veterans game Central Rugby Legends against Evergreens Rugby Legends whereby the local Legends will play against Cradock Legends.
There will also be a coaching clinic for all the local Graaff-Reinet primary schools from 09:00, led by The Future Kings from Port Elizabeth, a rugby development programme run by De Wet Barry, a former Springbok player, and Jaco van Schalkwyk, a former Cheetahs player and current sports organiser and first-team coach at Hoër Volkskool.
The rugby programme for the day will kick off with the coaching clinic, which will run from 09:00 until 11:00. This will be followed at 11:30 by U13 school rugby games, with a floating trophy to be awarded to the winning team.
At 14:00, Central Invitation side will play against an East Midlands College Invitation team. The warm-up to the main game will be Central Legends against Evergreens Legends from Cradock, scheduled to start at 15:30. This will be followed at 17:00 by the main game, Central 1st team against Southern Knights from Johannesburg.
The sporting ladies are not forgotten, with the netball tournament starting at 13:00. Teams from Umasizakhe Academy, Central Netball, Asherville Secondary School and Umasizakhe Netball Club will be participating.
Organisers Roland Ludick would like to encourage people to come and enjoy the day's sporting events with family and friends.
