GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Not only were Graaff-Reinet residents desperate to resume their exercise routines and make up for six weeks without it, but they also enjoyed inhaling the fresh Karoo air and basking in the beauty of Karoo splendour on 1 May, the first day of level four lockdown.
Exercise is now allowed between 6am and 9am, but not in organised groups.
Many of the joggers, walkers and cyclists embraced the opportunity to exercise within a 5 km radius of their homes. Many were happy to greet each other along the R63 en route to Murraysburg.
Reaching the Nqweba Dam, many came to a standstill to enjoy the sunrise over the water. "We can experience nature again," said a happy Louis van Rooyen.

Just about 1 km further, it was as if nature welcomed the humans back when a herd of red hartebeest crossed the R63 after drinking at the dam.
Guineafowl also stood in the road, showing humans their chicks born during the lockdown. The game was alert but did not run away.
Of course, local pets also enjoyed this outing and accompanied their owners.
