GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Over the weekend of 16 and 17 February, the Midlands Mixed Pairs competition was held on the greens of the Middelburg Bowling Club.
In an almost "family affair" the semi-finals was contested by married couples, Neil and Laurraine Miller, Chris and Alet Slabbert and Erica and Abri Joubert, with Johan van Onselen and Loraine van den Berg taking the last spot.
The Joubert combination qualified for the finals in a closely contested game against the Slabberts - winning by a single shot.
In the other semi-final, the Van den Berg/Onselen duo trounced the Miller couple.
The final was an all Middelburg affair, with Johan van Onselen (lead) and Loraine van den Berg (skip) lifting the title by 23 shots to 14.
BUSINESS LEAGUE
The first round of the Mister Paint/Flashcor Printing Business League was played on the greens of the Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club last Thursday evening, 14 February.
Twenty-four teams (96 players) took to the greens and - without any interference from Eskom, the games were completed.
Huis Eybers are currently in first place on + 16 shots, with the Police team lying second on + 11.
One shot further back is Spandau Spar, while Top Spinners are 4th on + 9.
In joint 5th place on + 8 we have Auto Boys, BKB and PG Glass.
The second round takes place at 5:30pm this thursday evening.
- The club's Drawn Pairs for Men and Ladies will take place on the local greens, provided there are eight entrants in either category.
- The Chosen Mixed Pairs will take place on the weekend of 2/3 march.
