GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The prestigious annual Proudfoot Golf Tournament attracts players from all over the country and the proceeds enable the Graaff-Reinet Golf Club to maintain its position as one of the top nine-hole courses.
The committee is also putting together a programme to make golf more accessible to everyone.
The Proudfoot has been an annual event since 1997.
This was started to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the late Douglas Proudfoot who had resided in Graaff-Reinet and, with no formal training, had won the SA Amateur title eight times in less than a decade.
This year’s tournament will be held on 22, 23 and 24 March with prize money to the value of R20 000.
Most visitors who play in this tournament are bowled over by the excellent state of the course, the delicious and generous meals served and the friendliness of the Graaff-Reinet people.
To be able to host a tournament of this nature, the Graaff-Reinet Golf is indebted to their sponsors. Graaff-Reinet Spar and N1 Construction have again kindly sponsored the golf club and this year Fly Karoo has also come on board.
The committee would like to encourage players to support this tournament.
All meals and entertainment are included in the entry fee.
Spectators are very welcome to come out to enjoy the magnificent views of the mountains overlooking the lush green fairways and join in the camaraderie of the event.
