GRAAFF-REINET FOOTBALL NEWS - The Eagles Football Club won a gold medal and a cash prize of R4 000 by beating Academy in the finals of the Eight Nations Soccer Tournament at the Masizakhe Stadium on Sunday.
Academy walked away with R2 000 cash.
Although being the firm favourites, the Eagles had to dig deep to beat underdogs Academy. The final ended in a 2-2 draw and it was only after a penalty shootout that the Eagles could manage to clinch the title with a 4-3 winning score.
The tournament was organised by Portugal Birds FC and was well-attended.
The Eagles beat Black Arrows in the semi-finals while Academy send Eleven Attackers home.
The organisers apologised for not being able to hand out the medals to the winning teams.
Runners-up were Academy Football Club.
