GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Due to wet fields, Union High School's scheduled junior cricket matches did not take place this weekend.
The U.15 did, however, take on Graeme College over the weekend.
Union won the toss and elected to bat first in a 65 over declaration match. On a difficult track, Union were bowled out for 105 runs in the 53rd over. Bowen Langmead scored 24 runs, Kwezi Simon 20 and Brett Amsterdam 19.
Union bowled well but were unable to defend this low score. Graeme College passed the Union score in the 39th over. Bowen Langmead took 2 wickets for 25 runs and Brett Amsterdam 1 for 23 in 14 overs.
Graeme College won the match by 6 wickets.
The 1st XI faced Graeme College over the weekend.
Graeme won the toss and elected to bat. They batted well and scored 219 for 8 in 56 overs.
Matt Harpur bowled 21 overs and took 2 wickets for only 58 runs. Terence Siyaya also took 2 wickets.
Union went in to bat and needed 220 runs to win. Union batted well, with Waylon du Plessis and Ronan Retief laying a good platform. Matt Harpur scored 42 runs, Ocean Wilma 44, Waylon du Plessis 39, Cowan Swartz 27 and Ronan Retief 19.
Union lost the match by only 9 runs.
