NATIONAL NEWS - Western Cape Premier Alan Winde, who announced yesterday that he has tested positive for Covid-19, has cancelled his weekly digital press conference (digicon) scheduled for 12:00 today.
Winde, a diabetic, yesterday afternoon said the digicon was going ahead, but this morning, on the advice of his doctor, took the decision to rest at home.
According to his spokesperson, Bianca Capazorio, the premier has a slight fever as a result of the virus. “As he has type 2 diabetes, he is monitoring himself closely. His blood glucose levels were also higher than usual this morning, determining the decision to take due precautions and rest.”
During the digicon Winde was set to provide an update on the province's response over the first 100 days of the lockdown as well as more detail on the province’s diabetes risk response.
He was to be joined by Health Minister Nomafrench Mbombo, Health HOD Keith Cloete and endocrinologist, Dr Joel Dave.
Capazorio said a new date for the digicon will be announced in due course.
