NATIONAL NEWS - A 37-year-old woman was arrested by Kagiso Police on May 5 following the murder of her 41-year-old husband at their home.
The deceased was employed by the Department of Correctional Services in Krugersdorp.
According to Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya, the woman is facing charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.
“Police received a complaint of a murder and proceeded to the address where they found the suspect (wife) who then related the story to them. She alleged that she was inside their home at about 20:30 together with her brother and her two children when she heard their dog barking in the yard, as well as sounds of a struggle.
“When she later opened the door she was shocked to see her bleeding husband lying on the doorstep. She said she and her brother tried to save her husband but failed. They drove to the nearest hospital in Randfontein to seek help and when they returned to the house they found the husband had died, she alleged.
“The motive for the murder is under investigation, and this afternoon the deceased’s wife was put under arrest as part of the investigation.”
The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) is expected to have a strong presence at the Magistrates’ Court today when the woman is due to appear.
