NATIONAL NEWS - In response to much confusion among South African Security Agency (Sassa) grant recipients about the expiry date on their Sassa cards, Sassa reassures them of continued grant payments.
The expiry date reflected on the current Sassa payment cards is December 2017.
Sassa spokesperson Tshediso Mahlaku says, "Sassa continues to receive enquiries regarding the expiry date and implications thereof from beneficiaries of social grants. Sassa wishes to put it on record that no beneficiary of social grants will be affected by this expiry date."
All social grant recipients are warned not to listen to anyone telling them to change their cards. The Sassa card bearing the colours of the South African flag remains the official card and cannot be changed for any other card. Beneficiaries are warned against hoax information being circulated, which requires them to disclose their personal and card details.
Sassa is in a planning phase regarding the future payment of social grants once the contract with the current service provider CPS (Cash Paymaster Services) comes to an end in March 2018.
Later this year, as soon as final plans are in place, beneficiaries will be informed about the updating process. Sassa remains committed to providing uninterrupted service to beneficiaries of social grants in moving South Africa forward.
Sassa doesn't sell financial products such as loans and discourages beneficiaries from using their cards to acquire such services. If beneficiaries are unsure about anything they hear from the media or fake SMS messages going around, they are asked to contact Sassa on the customer care line 080 060 1011.
