NATIONAL NEWS - Oscar Pistorius’ opting not to testify at his sentencing hearing has counted against him in his sentencing for Reeva Steenkamp’s murder.
Judge Thokozile Masipa said on Wednesday morning that the court could not add much weight to the testimony given in mitigation of sentence by clinical psychologist Professor Jonathan Scholtz.
When called by counsel Barry Roux‚ Scholtz had said Pistorius was still suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and should be hospitalised rather than sent to jail.
Masipa said that as Pistorius had decided not to take the dock during the sentencing proceedings‚ Scholtz’s testimony could not be tested.
