NATIONAL NEWS - The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has announced that the deadline for applications for enrollment in Western Cape schools for 2018, is Friday 24 March.
The department has to set an early deadline for applications because of the increasing demand for places in schools in the province.
The deadline applies in particular to children who are entering Gr1 or Gr8 in 2018, and children who are changing schools.
School admissions opened on Monday 6 February for all schools and will close on Friday 24 March 2017. The school must inform parents in writing of the outcome of their applications by 3 June 2017.
Parents have to confirm acceptance by the end of the second term, which is Friday 30 June 2017.
Debbie Schäfer, MEC for Education in the Western Cape, appealed to parents not to 'double park' their children.
"We urge parents to confirm acceptance by the deadline (Friday 30 June) and to avoid 'double parking'.
This is where learners are enrolled at more than one school, or appear on several waiting lists. However, it is vital that parents apply at several schools, and not just one, as there is no guarantee that their child will be accepted at the one they choose."
