NATIONAL NEWS - Rights organisations, AfriForum and Solidarity, have launched a campaign to challenge race-based quotas in sport and will rely on the African National Congress’s (ANC) own anti-racism submissions to the Olympic Charter to do so.
The bodies announced a comprehensive local and international legal plan to challenge imposed quotas in sport.
Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula announced last month that several sporting codes, including rugby and athletics, would be prevented from hosting international events for their failure to meet quota targets.
Solidarity’s Dirk Hermann has referred to the Olympic Charter, which states that no discrimination is allowed against any country or person on the grounds of race, religion or political affiliation.
