Sassa beneficiaries face 31 August deadline to switch from Gold Cards to Postbank Black Cards

NATIONAL NEWS - Postbank has urged beneficiaries who have not yet made the switch to do so as soon as possible, warning that Gold Cards are being phased out and will no longer function once the migration process has been completed.

Beneficiaries who fail to replace their cards before the deadline could face disruptions when accessing their social grant payments.

Postbank has also cautioned beneficiaries against waiting until their usual grant payment dates to replace their cards.

The increased demand as the deadline approaches could result in longer queues at card replacement sites.

Beneficiaries are therefore encouraged to replace their cards as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary delays and potential disruption to their grant payments.

Where to get a Postbank Black Card

Postbank Black Cards are available at selected retailers, including Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer and Spar stores.

Card replacement sites are open nationwide from Monday to Friday, between 09:00 and 17:00.

Beneficiaries can dial *120*355# from their mobile phones to locate their nearest card replacement site.

The replacement process is free, and beneficiaries must present a valid South African identity document or temporary ID.

September 2026 payment dates

Grant beneficiaries are advised that payments will be made on the following dates:

Older Persons Grant – Wednesday, 2 September
Disability Grant – Thursday, 3 September
Children’s grants – Friday, 4 September

Old Age Grant (75 years and older) – R2 335

Postbank has encouraged beneficiaries to visit a nearby Postbank service point rather than Sassa offices for enquiries relating to Gold Cards and Black Cards.
