NATIONAL NEWS - The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) has confirmed its head Robert McBride has been asked to provide a warning statement to the Hawks on Monday as part of an investigation against him for defeating or obstructing the ends of justice.
The probe relates to two separate incidents, which occurred during his term as Ekurhuleni Metro Police chief.
Earlier this month, telephonic recordings emerged suggesting Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko and senior Hawks investigators had been conspiring to implicate McBride in the matter.
In the letter, seen by Eyewitness News, McBride was ordered to submit a warning statement to the Hawks by 11am on Monday.
The first incident relates to a nearly decade old attempted murder case, which happened in Boksburg, under the watch of McBride as Metro Police chief.
