SOUTHERN CAPE MOTORING NEWS - You have all heard about the bike rallies, the "Buff, Rhino and Swallows" meetings - bikers seem to like getting around!
But now it's time for scooters and light bikes to experience the vibe and fun of the bigger bike rallies.
Motorsport promoter Bobby Hack is organising the first ever Scooter Rally on the Garden Route on 18 March. He says there are other scooter rallies up-country with the most notable being the Hartebeespoort Scooter Rally.
The Scooter Rally in Plettenberg Bay will be at the Forest Gate Centre on the N2 in Harkerville, about 7km on the Knysna side of Plettenberg Bay. The daytime programme includes a Concourse d'Elegance, Scooter Olympics, as well as R500 and a trophy for the furthest distance travelled to the rally and a Barrel Race.
On Saturday night there will be a "Scooter Sokkie" combined with a bring and braai.
The venue is under cover with a Bush Pub on site. A temporary campsite is available for the weekend. After a bush breakfast on Sunday, there will be a mass ride through Plettenberg Bay down to the beach. Gates open at 10:00 on Saturday 18 March.
The rally is open to any scooter and light motorbike under 250cc.
