GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - According to Graaff-Reinet SPCA Inspector, Hillary Chaplin, the recent New Year celebrations were more responsible that in previous years.
"Normally our kennels are full on New Year's Day. This was a first in a long time [that it was nearly empty]," she told the Advertiser.
She thanked locals for not shooting crackers and fireworks in such a way that pets were scared and running away from their homes.
Sadly, one dog was euthanised on 2 January, after it sustained serious injuries after falling into a ditch.
It is unclear wether the dog's injuries were a result of New Year celebrations.
Two other dogs were taken to the SPCA on 2 January for safekeeping, as the organisation tried to find the dogs' owners.
